Leaves' Fall
Watercolor paint, watercolor pencil, white gouache, and Micron pen on watercolor paper
2015
Autumn is my very favorite time of the year. I live in New England, so the colors of the leaves are simply brilliant. I wanted to capture all that color in this piece. This piece was a lot of fun! There's no black ink at all on her, with the exception of her eyes and eyelashes. Everything else was done with sienna ink, or with a very fine brush and watercolor paint.

Amidst lots of brilliant tropical colors, a mermaid strikes a pose before swirling away.
I love mermaids, and I love bright colors, so I merged the two in the piece. Getting the background believable as a fantasy coral reef was important. I wanted her to blend into her surroundings, while making it look like a place that could exist.

Curious Flutterby

2013
The faerie dragon. Playful, fickle, childlike, and devious, all wrapped up in a cat-sized package. Fortunately, the small bundles of mischief incarnate can be amazingly delicate with creatures far more fragile than themselves.
I like to refer to this one as a rainbow of riotous color! It's not in me, I think, to tone my color schemes down, so I let things fly with this one. The butterfly in the upper left is loosely based on Mothra's colors. Mothra is one of my favorite kaiju, so I wanted to pay her some homage.

Returning the Light
Watercolor paint, watercolor pencils, gouache on Bristol paper
2011
In the depths of Night, the Light returns.
Created for my 2011 holiday cards, this beautiful faerie was great fun to work on. The pose is from SenshiStock on D deviantart. I originally wanted only soft blues and white, but felt that would make the piece look too washed out, so I added the soft roses and purples. And stripey socks. Because faeries should wear stripey socks.

Lady of the Forest
Watercolor paint, watercolor pencil, white gouache, and India ink on illustration board
2011
Drawn back in 2011 for the Enchanted Visions project, the theme was Lady of the Forest. This seems to be a favorite color scheme of mine: purple, green, and mustard. My scanner at the time really picked up the yellow in this. It's not that yellowy, I promise.

Along Came A Spider...

Another one of my Enchanted Visions' pieces. I wanted the threat to look not-so-threatening. I cannot say I wasn't inspired by the giant spiders from The Hobbit (the book, not the movie!)

A Pirate's Life for Me
Watercolor paint, watercolor pencil, white gouache, and India ink
2010
I love mermaids, but I admit, they kind of creep me out. I ascribe more to the idea that mermaids are really just pretty sirens, and just as deadly. Why wouldn't one take up a life of piracy and get all the shiny jewels she wants?

Created for St Patrick's Day! I'm Irish, so that's a pretty important day around here.

Another of my St Patrick's Day pictures. I really like this one a lot, the pose was a lot of fun! She was a gift to my mom.
